Whitestone Surgery to highlight loneliness with open day
The importance of community involvement and tackling loneliness will be the key themes of a special event taking place in Nuneaton this summer.
Members of Whitestone Surgery’s award winning patient participation group (WS-PPG) will be hosting the ‘Happy, Health and Involved’ open day at the United Reform Church on Saturday, June 10th.
The event will play an integral role in WS-PPG’s ongoing campaign to curb loneliness and disengagement in the Nuneaton area, especially among the elderly. Over the course of this year, Whitestone Surgery in conjunction with Guideposts and supported by Warwickshire County Council, is launching a range of all-new, additional, health and wellbeing services, seeking to provide a broad range of activities and support for older people. As one of the country’s leading patient participation groups, WS-PPG will also provide an example of best-practice.
June’s open day is set to include a wide-range of activities and stalls including a bake sale, bric-a-brac stalls and tombola, making it the perfect day out for the entire family.

“With Britain having an increasingly aging population, the need for community outreach programmes to tackle loneliness have never been more important. Building on last year’s ‘digital future of healthcare’ open day, which was a tremendous success, we’re looking forward to exploring the issue of loneliness and community involvement in further detail at the event in June.”
The open day is one of a number of initiatives launched by WS-PPG over the past 18 months. Alongside a pioneering digital inclusion scheme for the elderly, rolled out throughout the Whitestone area, it has also founded the Carer’s Carer, a drop-in centre.
All proceeds raised at the event go to The Silver Line, a helpline for older people.
