Nuneaton’s Mayor was guest of honour at a recent meal hosted by Whitestone Surgery’s Carers’ Café initiative.

Taking place at the Whitestone Public House and Restaurant last month (18 April), the-get together was open to all members of the Carers’ Café and Couple Group, an innovative scheme supporting those living with dementia and their spouses. Now an annual tradition for the award-winning group, with this year’s meal being the best attended yet.

The event was even given some VIP treatment, with the attendance of Councillor Bill Hancox, Nuneaton’s Mayor. An invitation was extended following the Carers’ Café visiting the Mayoral Parlour in November 2017; one of a number of planned excursions delivered by the initiative last year.

Hay Sharma, deputy chair of the Whitestone Surgery Patient Participation Group (WS-PPG), commented: “Our annual meal is one of the most eagerly anticipated events of WS-PPG’s calendar, and this year’s get-together was the most successful yet. The Carers’ Café is a fantastic initiative designed to support the primary caregivers of people living with long term conditions, and it’s fantastic to be able to give something back to them.

“Obviously such events don’t happen without the dedication and hard work of a core team of volunteers, so I’d like to thank everybody involved in organising this. I’d also like to thank the Mayor, for taking time out of his busy schedules to join us for the afternoon.”
